Eat Your Green Bananas! They’re Prebiotic.
by Dr. Ana
Have you heard yet? Prebiotics are essential to your health.
Prebiotics are considered functional foods, so-called because they provide health benefits that go beyond basic nutrition. In this case, way beyond! Prebiotics are now a known colon cancer fighter and preventer.
It may sound weird when I say they are non-digestible or partially digestible food ingredients. You might think “that can’t be good,†but it is very good.
Probiotic supplements often include a prebiotic because they have a symbiotic relationship: One–the pro–stimulates the growth of healthy bacteria in the colon and the other–the pre–provides the food so those healthy bacteria can go to work for us.
It’s best to get the pre and probiotics from your food. Thankfully that’s easy to do. Check our list and see what you can cook up tonight to feed your gut flora!
Prebiotic foods: burdock, chicory, dandelion root, Jerusalem artichoke, leeks and onions; grains, legumes and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, radish and rutabaga, green bananas.
You might recognize that this entire list of foods are also excellent cancer fighters!
Prime among other benefits of prebiotics is increased calcium absorption, which is particularly important for the maintenance of healthy bones and teeth.

Testimonial
At 40 my husband and I were excited to start a family and while we knew it might not be easy, we were hopeful that we could conceive naturally. When it didn't happen immediately, Dr. Ana encouraged us to not give up on our dream, and kept us hopeful. To our absolute delight and surprise, after 18 months I conceived! The pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum were healthy times and our one-year old Gracie is our greatest treasure.
